Thank You For Input!

With the first and second rounds of public engagement, you helped us identify roadway safety concerns in the City of Jackson and how you would like to see these concerns addressed. The draft plan will be available for review soon!

While you wait, read on to learn more about the Safe Streets and Roads for All program and the plan development process.

The Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program

The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) in 2022. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries, supporting USDOT's National Roadway Safety Strategy and goal of zero roadway deaths.

Over the 5 years of the program's lifespan, from 2022-2026, $5 billion have been designated to fund community-led projects across the country that address the preventable crisis of deaths on roads, streets, and highways through safer people, roads, and vehicles; appropriate vehicle speeds; and improved post-crash care.

City of Jackson Safety Action Plan

As a participant in the SS4A program, the City of Jackson will be developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All Safety Action Plan that is intended to outline specific strategies and investments in transportation safety improvements.

Listening and Learning

Our approach to creating the Safety Action Plan to improve safety for all users of the transportation system begins with crafting a vision based on community input about transportation goals, needs, and priorities. We hope to involve residents from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, promoting access and equity in the plan.

Public Engagement Overview

The first round of public engagement focused on identifying the roadway safety concerns in the City of Jackson. Multiple concerns were identified, including driver behavior, roadway infrastructure, and bicycle, pedestrian, and transit user accommodations.

The second round of engagement built from the first, giving you the opportunity to help us decide how to specifically address those concerns. Both a questionnaire and interactive map were provided to further narrow down the types of improvements and where they are most needed.

The third and final round of public engagement starts on November 5th and will give you the opportunity to review the draft plan and provide input.

From improved sidewalks to safer intersections, community input will determine which changes take priorities in the City of Jackson's SS4A Safety Action Plan.

Other key components of the comprehensive action plan will include:
